UPDATE: I had a sleep study done in a lab, which is more accurate. It showed I have obstructive sleep apnea, not central. Just wanted to update for those who might be experiencing these symptoms. It’s treatable with a CPAP machine while sleeping. I was diagnosed with "central sleep apnea." Has anyone dealt with it? According to my pulmonologist, central sleep apnea is when the brain "forgets" to send a signal to breathe while you are sleeping. I do sometimes feel like I "forget to breathe," even when I'm awake. I had several of these instances during a home sleep study. I was told it is not the same as obstructive sleep apnea, which is quite common in EDS. (That is due to an obstruction in the airway that causes you to stop breathing for a few seconds while you're asleep, but then you wake up and breathing returns.) I'm going for more testing but have to wait over a month for the next consultation. I'm looking for any info but not finding much in medical literature, and nothing about central sleep apnea being associated with EDS. I'm wondering if any other zebras have encountered this diagnosis. Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
