I get a lot of pain around my lower ribs. It feels like I overuse those muscles in breathing; I know I’m supposed to use my ribs in breathing but I also know that the diaphragm and pelvic floor are supposed to lift on the exhale and lower on the inhale. When I breathe out slowly as if through a straw I feel my pelvic floor and diaphragm lift, and I don’t feel that in my normal breathing. What I feel instead is that the lower ribs pull in/upward. I’ve been practicing the “straw” breathing and when I inhale through my nose I focus on relaxing my pelvic floor (which is really difficult on the left, which is the side with more pain in general -neck, ribs, back, SI, abdomen). So far I’m only doing it while lying down because it’s too difficult in sitting and impossible in standing. I’ve been doing TZC for a long time and this issue hasn’t improved. I’d love to hear people’s thoughts on why that might be and what I can do to improve my breathing. Also any thoughts on how to manage the rib pain. It’s hard because I can’t rest those muscles!
