Every year I try to make it to one gig at the Galway International Arts Festival Big Top. Tonight’s the night! Going to see Fat Freddy’s Drop. Other years I’ve seen Blondie, Chic, Madness, Elvis Costello, The Flaming Lips and the Pixies. A lot of planning and pacing involved! Here’s how I manage it… Two seats in the disabled seating area. So my husband can take a break from his mates and join me from time to time. He’s also in charge of getting me drinks. The disabled toilets are very close too. I bring my cane, mostly to make my disability more visible but also if I need it. The venue is a 5 minute walk from my house. My husband meets his mates first and they pick me up on their way over. We arrive as close to when act starts as possible. He walks me home the second the gig ends then rejoins his friends. I make sure to do as little as possible on the day plus the day after. He’s just phoned to say they have left the pub and heading over so I’d better get my boots on! My one late night out a year and I’m so excited!!!!
